Perak Incident : You talk the talk, and you walk the walk. ( my online journ asgmnt. thank ngah! )

Perak Incident : You talk the talk, and you walk the walk.

The Perak incident is now the boiling subject not only to residents of Perak, but also to the whole nation. Some might say that this incident shows the maturity of our political situation. But, to some, this incident taught something about the importance of choosing the political representatives wisely.

When I experience the actions and hear the words of our politicians-in-power, I feel down. This is because of what they say and do – it is just unethical. Malaysia seems to be stuck in this 'broken tape recorder' loop of electing people into power who are not really worthy of the role of leadership.

The latest political situation in Perak justify this. Between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR), the war shows no sign of stopping. When two PKR candidates, and one DAP candidate decided to leave their respective parties in order to become independent and pledged their support over BN, the war starting to get more serious. Hence, giving BN an upper hand in the majority of Perak DUN seats, and most importantly, BN has the power to control Perak. This creates a chaotic situation between both parties. While the political circles are buzzing, Sultan Perak Sultan Azlan Shah decided that BN would rule the state based on the majority holds, and all MP’s under the current PR government should resign with immediate effect.

This hectic situation has made PR taste their own medicine in their own political game. They issued about the Sept 16 takeover plan that are obviously not going to happen. On top of that, I have to admit that PR latest attitude shows how they are not fighting for anything else but power. This can be proven when they refuse to resign when they are asked to do so. They have been promising so many things that they are starting to forget about their own manifesto - what BN has not done for the people, and fighting for the people’s rights.

BN, on the other hand has been playing the game very well. BN is not responding to PR calls for new election in the three independent state seats because BN does not want to take the 50-50 chance to win. They allowed PR to rule. Due to PR uncivilized action, loud, making street protest and vulgar tactics, I believe the civilized and peace loving Malaysian world prefer BN, which seems to do away with all this chaos and protest. While PR was busy making havoc about their ability to defeat the government, they fail to realize that BN is gently pulling in support to win rakyat’s hearts.

Through all this havoc, chaotic situation in Perak, it is all official that Perak now belongs to BN. The nation stares in disbelief perhaps because we underestimated BN leadership. There were so many predictions that UMNO was it are on its last legs after the March 2008 General Elections. Politics is the art of possible, and the current happening in Malaysia political circle has further cemented it.

So what can we do as the rakyat? Well, all is not lost. The first lesson we need to consider is the reality of PR. Was this coalition ever a practical option? As we all know, Perak state have to accept that they won the election in Perak by kerajaan campuran – DAP, PAS and PKR. All in all, they all have different ideology and interest. Well, I believe that rakyat must be represented a by a single political party. This party must promise equality for all Malaysians. Even a nation needs only one person to lead the whole country, how can Perak have three leaders?

Another lesson we need to consider is who we choose as our political representatives. Think. Do not just vote . The person should be willing to commit their time and effort to the community before and after being selected as a candidate. It is essential for every candidates to be educated and knowledgeable about Malaysia Parliamentary Democracy based on the Federation system in order to avoid political chaos. I hope this issue will highlight the undeniable power of Malaysian Democracy System. To Malaysian citizens, do appreciate our country more and to the respective parties, you talk the talk , and you walk the walk.
